Oundle’s aspiration is to offer music to any and every pupil in School who wishes to experience it, to understand it, to study it, to participate in it - or to those who simply want to listen to it.

Lunchtime Concerts

St Peter’s Church, Oundle, 1.15pm

Join us on Market Days in this beautiful church setting in Oundle for neatly presented and diverse concerts. Lunch is offered in the form of homemade soup and bread rolls from 1pm for £3.50, provided by Rachael Kelley of The Little Soup Kitchen. Good company, wholesome food, delightful music – surely the perfect line-up.

Folk Music with the Bardolino- Karpatská Trio

Bardolino are a violin, cello and percussion trio based in Prague. Having led successful careers as international classical musicians, they are now devoting themselves to a unique fusion project that embraces the raw essence of folk music from Moravia as well as gypsy music, Peruvian drumming rhythms, and even Scottish fiddling tunes, with the sheer quality and accuracy of classically trained musicians.

Schola Cantorum

Schola Cantorum of Oxford is one of the longest established and most widely known chamber choirs in the UK. Founded by conductor László Heltay in 1960 as Collegium Musicum Oxoniense, Schola Cantorum has worked with such highly respected musicians as former patrons Sir Michael Tippett and Yehudi Menuhin, as well as Leonard Bernstein, Gustav Leonhardt, John Nelson, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Mark Elder, and Sir Neville Marriner. Schola Cantorum comprises around thirty singers, most of whom are students at Oxford University, studying a broad variety of subjects. The programme will feature music from their UK tour, including Britten’s Hymn to St Cecilia.

Wednesday Music Option Musicians Entertain

We are raising money to help the Church’s restoration work and will present a concert from our musicians who have opted for Music and Ensemble Practice on Wednesday afternoons in the Fifth, Lower and Upper Sixth Forms. Expect solos and ensembles of a superb standard, all before staff and pupils get on a coach to pursue the Elgar trail over in Malvern as part of our Field Weekend line-up.

Brass Prep School Day

For the concert, be entertained by Oundle School’s advanced brass players in the form of a Senior Trumpet, Tuba and Trombone Quartet, followed by Oundle Brass (a mixed brass ensemble) and a performance from the Oundle School Staff Brass Quintet.

Piano Recital by Alexander Ardakov

A graduate of the Moscow Conservatoire and a prizewinner at the Viotti International competition in Italy, Alexander Ardakov has been living in England where, in addition to his international performing, he is a Professor of Piano at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance.

The move to Britain and to Trinity, where he has taught since 1991, has enabled him to develop as an international recitalist of exceptional versatility and musical integrity. Among his notable radio recordings are those for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. He feels at home not only with the Russian classics but also with the composers of the romantic period such as Chopin, Liszt and Schumann.

These concerts popping up through the year cater specifically for those pupils less confident in the public arena or for pupils who would benefit from a run-through of repertoire before examinations. Private atmosphere and supportive audiences needed!
