Cats Protection, the UK’s leading feline welfare charity, helps over 194,000 cats and kittens per year through its national network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 31 adoption centres. From humble beginnings in 1927, Cats Protection has grown to become the UK’s leading feline welfare charity.
Each branch works to rescue and re-home stray and unwanted cats and kittens. All our cats are looked after by dedicated fosterers from their own homes.
Our work doesn’t stop there, however. We also provide an array of cat care information via our publications, website and Helpline, promote the benefi ts of neutering to prevent unwanted litters from being born and becoming the abandoned cats of tomorrow and seek to educate people of all ages about cats and their care.
Cats Protection is governed by a Board of Trustees which, in turn, is advised on its decisions by an Advisory Council of appointed representatives of the charity’s membership.
As a charity, we rely solely on the generosity and kindness of the public to enable us to go on caring for cats and kittens. Our work never stops, so your support is vital to us. From giving your time as a volunteer to leaving a gift in your will, or subscribing to The Cat magazine, anything that you can do is much appreciated.

Volunteering is the most worthwhile thing you can ever do. It gives a real sense of achievement, allows the development of new skills and the social possibilities are endless!
