The Cottage Tea Room at Lyveden New Bield near Oundle is proving such a success that the team are now looking for additional volunteers, particularly at weekends. Over 20,000 visitors come to Lyveden each year and discover the beautiful tranquillity, living history or freedom to explore. Claire Barrett, Lyveden Operations Manager, is looking to take on more volunteers who can help in the Tea Room at weekends, waiting on tables and providing a warm welcome to the visitors, who come from all over the world. Volunteering offers a great opportunity to meet with people, learn new skills or develop your CV. Offering more than 50 hours of support a year also brings a free pass to all National Trust properties and discount to Trust shops and other catering outlets.

Lyveden is one of England’s oldest gardens and recently designated by English Heritage to be of international importance. Created by Sir Thomas Tresham in 1600, Lyveden remains virtually unaltered since the family became involved in the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. The historic garden is surrounded by acres of woodland and wildfl ower meadows offering a perfect spot to  volunteer in a delightful relaxing environment. The Cottage Tea Room was opened in April 2013 and has been proving very popular with visitors to Lyveden. Volunteers form the backbone of the National Trust with over 70,000 people undertaking hundreds of different roles all helping to make the National Trust the successful charity it is today.
