Dear Reader

So summer has finally arrived and with it the joys of upcoming holidays.  For a child, the days can be dragging on, but the pages ahead will present plenty of suggestions of how to keep youngsters entertained over the months ahead.  From dinosaurs in the park at Delapré Abbey (page 26), teddy bears picnic at Deene Park (page 28), story-telling at Kelmarsh Hall (page 46) to play days at Lyveden (page 54) - there is something for everyone in the great outdoors.  Wistow Maze (pages 58-59) with its trails and quizzes offers, quite literally, miles of fun amidst the maize, and there is a family ticket and children’s tickets to be won as well.  For things to do at home, Jonathan Biggs of Bosworth’s Garden Centre gives practical advice on how to involve young children in growing plants over summer on pages 52-53.

It is a true pleasure to see the return of some of the most popular festivals this year: Creative Oundle International Festival (pages 24-25) with its amazing spread of cultural talent; Silverstone Classic (pages 44-45) with its mix of historic car racing and live entertainment; and KettFest 2022 (pages 48-49) with its eclectic selection of creative activities.  Add to that Luna Flix outdoor cinema screenings (page 64) and an abundance of outdoor theatre plays set in the grounds of our country houses and you’re in for a summer of pure entertainment.

On a personal note, this will be a very special August for our family as we celebrate the wedding of our eldest, Daniel, to his fiancée, Lily.  Like many of the above events, a wedding is especially jubilant in sunshine, so let’s hope for a summer of kind weather to make it a glorious and joyous one for all.
