Vicky McAlwane & Ian Langley relocated their Auburn Fox Home & Interiors to Thrapston’s High Street this August. Inspired by country living and old industrial buildings, Auburn Fox sells hand-selected furniture from all around the world, bringing affordable luxury of unique and individual items into your home.
Vicky & Ian opened their fi rst shop in the roof space of a shared building at Nene Court in 2019; when they closed their doors due to the pandemic, they decided to use the time to expand the company’s online presence and to move to their fi rst self-maintained premises in Thrapston. Penny, their little Chihuahua, is still very much part of the business and is so popular with the customers that some come in just to see her.
The business originally started with Vicky and Ian making pallet wood creations in the garden and selling them on Facebook. They also bought and sold old furniture that needed some cosmetic improvements.
Ian was originally a prison offi cer and Vicky a self-taught upholsterer with a background in fashion and design. They were contacted by the BBC to make custom headboards for a deserving family as part of their DIY SOS show, which was a really positive and rewarding experience. The couple then started renting space within artisan shops to sell their creations, before changing their business to less manufacturing and more of a retail model to help cope with the demands of making to order.
Vicky & Ian are now making Thrapston their home for the foreseeable future and want to become part of the friendly and welcoming community. They want to continue to expand their online shop and to develop and improve the successful way of transforming homes into rustic retreats.
