Mark and Rachel Dunn moved to the
Rose & Crown seven years ago when
the pub was more like a run-down
drinkers’ bar. Situated right at the
heart of Islip, just outside Thrapston,
on the Nene Way footpath, the Rose
& Crown is a 17th century Grade II
listed building with Collyweston slate
roofi ng. Mark and Rachel really
got the opportunity to renovate the
premises during lockdown, and
now the public house has been
transformed into a restaurant and
bar with a beautiful decking area
overlooking the river Nene. They did
most of the work themselves, only
using local tradesmen and suppliers
for anything they couldn’t manage
on their own.
During lockdown, Mark and Rachel continued to serve
food in the form of contactless deliveries and takeaways,
in accordance with WHO Covid-19 guidelines.
They were also contacted by Cransley Hospice Trust
and have set up a fund to enable them to supply Sunday
roasts to their nurses and volunteers, an initiative
which is still ongoing and supported by their customers.
Within a few weeks of lockdown, Mark and Rachel also
launched The Village Grocer, a local grocery delivery
service which uses locally sourced products and does
contactless, safe deliveries.
The Rose & Crown has an eclectic restaurant menu
with Italian pizza, bar snacks and traditional pub food.
A Thai chef cooks authentic Thai dishes one night a
week, and Mark and Rachel plan on starting breakfasts
and afternoon teas soon. Please keep a lookout on the

The Rose & Crown proudly supports locally
sourced ingredients whenever possible. All
meat is from English, grass-fed animals, fi sh
is sustainably caught in British waters and
Grasmere farms produce is used in their pork
dishes. The restaurant and bar areas are
Covid safe with automatic hand sanitisers
located around the building. A Citron Clear
air purifi er which kills viruses and bacteria
has been installed and all staff members have
been trained to ensure safe service.
