Woodford Mill, the historic watermill on the bridge between Ringstead & Great Addington has been beautifully restored by Clive and Emily Hodgson, who also own Willy Watt Marina, with support from The Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE)’ and The North Northamptonshire Rural Action Partnership Leader Scheme. Clive and Emily have worked tirelessly on the project, converting former paper, fl our and bone rendering watermill to provide self-catering holiday accommodation, a tea room and a chandlery shop.

Getting the water wheel running was a big challenge. One water wheel has been completed so far and the mechanisms can be seen behind a glass wall in the new Tea Room. A second wheel should be made to work in the future and both should, eventually, generate electricity for the site. The mill facilities will appeal to waterborne visitors, walkers and the local community alike. A day boat is available for hire for visitors who want to enjoy the beauty of Ringstead Lake and the waterways, and there is also a launch point for canoeists. A car park has been built opposite the Tea Room that accommodates a further 40 cars to the 24 spaces already provided.

The Tea Room is run by Richard Simister and Lianna Lawrence who have been friends with Clive and Emily for many years. Having run their own Tea Rom opposite the harbour in Scarborough, Richard and Lianna are thrilled to be back in Northamptonshire. The Tea Room has been very popular since it fi rst opened at the end of March, especially on sunny days when you can sit in the large, river-facing garden.

The Tea Room specialises in homemade treats like Victoria sponge, coffee & walnut cake, fruit scones, cheese scones & cherry tea loaf. Where possible Richard and Lianna use local suppliers including Potters Butchers of Stanwick & Cookies Bakery from Raunds. Many local painters are keen to paint here and Richard & Lianna look forward to organising events like a classic car show and local art and craft stall events. They also sell local homemade jewellery, handbags & Cranford honey.

Cream Teas and light lunches are served Wednesday - Friday 11.30am to 5pm and Saturday/Sunday/Bank holidays from 10am to 5pm.
