Vanessa Wood has set up an independent local support service ‘A Helping Hand’ to provide help to those in need of aid in carrying out day-to-day tasks. Raised in Geddington, Vanessa has been brought up in a close-knit community where people look out for one another and has previously worked in residential homes and managed teams to support people with learning disabilities in the community. However, Vanessa had to take a step back from her career to support her mother during her battle with cancer. At this time, she relied on nurses and a care team to give extra support and it was their care and dedication which inspired Vanessa to channel her resources towards community care.

A Helping Hand has been developed using feedback Vanessa has gathered over the past few months working in the community. Understandably, people want someone friendly and dependable who can be flexible and work in a personcentred way and, at the same time, be competitively priced. You may have a relative who is resident in a private home who would like to get out for a few hours a week to get some personal shopping? You may need help running your home, attending appointment, fulfilling social activities or trips?

With a General National Vocational Qualification level 3 in health and social care, first aid and food and hygiene training as well a recent CRB through Mencap, Vanessa has public liability insurance and business cover on her car, so if you or someone in your family could do with ‘a helping hand’, please contact Vanessa for a meeting to discuss how she
can help.
