Visitors to the Stahl can expect great things as this fi rst season under the new directorship of Naomi Jones continues. From two performances by one of the country’s leading touring theatre companies, to originally commissioned work and devised theatre, there should be something for everyone!
In the Shadow of Wings Thursday 5th, Friday 6th & Saturday 7th March, 7.45pm - Tickets: £5 Spring 1915 - Europe is at war. Cecil Lewis and best friend Maynard Greville, aged 16, stand on the steps of School House and contemplate what their contribution to the Great War will be. Writt en by - former pupil, Eddie Elks and based on the book Sagitt arius Rising by former pupil, Cecil Lewis. This original piece, commissioned by Oundle School as part of its World War 1 centenary commemorations, vividly depicts the beginnings of what was to become a life full of adventure for Cecil Lewis. It is performed by a talented ensemble from the Fifth and Sixth Form at Oundle School.
A Level Theatre Studies Thursday 19th March, 7.45pm - Tickets: £3 Devised Performance
The fi nal performance by Upper Sixth Theatre Studies pupils is always a highlight. The culmination of the two-year course presents a production devised by the pupils themselves.
Previous years’ work has centred on views of dystopian society, refl ections on the life and work of Sylvia Plath and adaptations based on the poetry of Keats and Kipling. The Lower Sixth pupils perform a series of extracts from published plays and, once again, the audience can expect an extraordinarily diverse range.
Crouch, Touch, Pause, Engage Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th April, 7.45pm - Tickets: £9.50 This is the story of two Welsh names bruised, but not beaten, by media speculation: Gareth “Alfi e” Thomas, 105 caps for Wales, once its captain and now the world’s most prominent gay sportsman, and his hometown, Bridgend. Working with Alfi e himself, and young people in Bridgend, two of the UK’s most exciting theatre companies – Out of Joint and National Theatre Wales – have teamed up to tell a great story about sport, politics, secrets, life and learning to be yourself. On Tuesday 28th the performance will be followed by a postshow discussion with director Max Staff ord-Clark and members of the company.
Out of Joint, National Theatre of Wales and Arcola Theatre with Sherman Cymru.
