Having a spinal fusion after a serious accident left her unable to walk convinced Sam Dignan that she needed a change of lifestyle with a suitable exercise programme to maintain a healthy and strong spine. She subsequently spent a year studying, practising and later teaching at the Yogabody Yoga Teachers College in Barcelona before returning to the UK to open Gravity Yoga in 2017.

All her classes are scientifi cally based around strengthening, fl exing & relaxing the body and having as much fun as possible while doing so. As well as being fully qualifi ed in teaching Aerial Yoga, Trapeze & Pilates, Sam also teaches Modern, Yin, Restorative, Yoga Wheel & Stretch, Relax & Restore Yoga and Breath and Flexibility Coaching from her own studios in Kettering.

Sam calls her business Gravity Yoga because the air-based sessions use gravity for traction on the body and the mat-based sessions help the body to deepen into the poses naturally without force. Gravity Yoga’s indoor group classes, workshops and experience days are run in the Kettering studio in Bath Road. Sam also offers private 1:1 tuition in The Gravity Studio at her home.

Yoga Trapeze is an anti-gravity class which uses both the ground and the support of a suspended material sling with suspension handsets to transform traditional yoga into a multi-dimensional experience. Yoga Trapeze is a fun and effective way to enhance your yoga experience and build strength, fl exibility, balance and stamina.

As well as being a cardiovascular workout, each class combines inverted poses with breath work and relaxation techniques in a unique anti-gravity session. Yoga Trapeze can help decompress the spine and build strength in the back and supporting muscles which can help anyone suffering from pain or discomfort of the spine. Just like Yoga, Yoga Trapeze can be restorative to body and mind as well as increase strength and fl exibility.

Aerial Yoga is an anti-gravity class which uses both the ground and the support of a suspended silk sling to transform traditional yoga into a fusion of suspended Yoga, strength and fl exibility exercises, inversion poses and a little bit of circus. Aerial Yoga helps you to improve fl exibility and build strength. It works the core, the body’s centre of gravity, helps decompress the spine, ease tight joints, release muscular tension as well as stimulating creativity and energy in the body. There is a weight limit of 200 lbs for safety reasons. This class is suitable for more advanced students, and it is highly recommended that you practise a term of Yoga Trapeze before signing up for this class.

Aerial Barre Pilates is an anti-gravity class which uses both the ground and the support of a suspended hammock to transform traditional Pilates into a multi-dimensional experience with a fusion of ballet bare poses. Aerial Barre Pilates helps you to improve fl exibility and build strength.

It works the core, the body’s centre of gravity, helps decompress the spine, ease tight joints, release muscular tension as well as stimulate creativity and energy in the body. By using the hammock your body has to work harder to control the material and fi nd your centre of gravity. Each class combines aerial Pilates and barre fused with body conditioning and relaxation breathing techniques in a unique fl ying aerial class.

This is suitable for all levels, including complete beginners, and so much fun!

Gravity Yoga is likely to become well known outside the region, as Channel 4 recently fi lmed a Gravity Yoga session for Trip Hazzard with celebrities Rosie Jones and Lady Leshurr scheduled to air later this year.

The next absolute beginners Yoga Trapeze workshop will run on Saturday 10th September from 10-11.30am. Cost £30. Yoga, Trapeze & Aerial sessions are not advisable for some medical conditions so please check with Sam before booking your sessions.
