The Rural Crime Team has been busy with a change of sergeant and recruitment for a new constable to bolster the team back up to six offi cers.

Earlier in the year, the Northamptonshire Offi ce of the Police, Crime and Fire Commissioner provided funding to the Rural Crime Team to purchase Smartwater kits. This is a fantastic piece of crime prevention where a colourless liquid in applied to equipment. It is resistant to fi re, humidity and sunlight and provides traceability and ownership. Each kit is then registered to an individual and in the event their equipment it is stolen, Smartwater provides the police with a way of linking the property back to the victim.

The Rural Crime Team has been identifying remote locations and repeat victims, usually on farms, and visiting them to show how the kits work as well as providing contact details for the team and a site crime prevention assessment. The kits have been well received by the rural communities, and the Rural Crime Team will continue to support members of our rural communities through targeted patrols and community engagement.

The team has recently attended the Blakesley Show and held static roadside check action days, working alongside our partners at the DVSA, Trading Standards and others to ensure vehicles, in particular caravans, trailers, and plant machinery, are maintained and safe to be used on our county’s roads.

The team has also been working closely with our neighbouring forces and supported Warwickshire Police on a recent warrant to target a crime group believed to be responsible for offending in many force areas. This led to the recovery of stolen items and a quantity of cash. Investigations are still ongoing.
