Young Farmers’ Clubs in Northamptonshire are part of a national rural youth organisation dedicated to young people aged between 10 and 26 who like farming and rural life.

Please note that you defi nitely do not have to be a farmer or have any connection to farming to become a member. As long as you have an interest in the countryside and rural issues you’ll be made very welcome.

There are fi ve clubs in the county: Grendon, Kelmarsh, Oundle, Thrapston and Towcester, and unlike most youth organisations they are led by the members, for the members. The regular weekly meetings offer a great social life as well as the opportunity to take part in a wide a variety of competitions, sports, travel, talks, visits, charity fundraising, event planning, learn new skills, have fun and make new friends.

Reaching Out Working in partnership with the Farming Community Network (FCN) the Young Farmers’ Clubs aim to promote positive mental wellbeing, raise awareness of mental health issues, and reduce social isolation. Joining a Young Farmers’ Club is in itself a good way to combat rural isolation and each of our clubs has received Rural+ training which provides information and tools so that they can become a support network for rural young people who may experience rural isolation and mental health issues.

Post-pandemic the emphasis is on having more fun and in May a Tractor Run with over 50 tractors around some of the villages to the north of the county raised just over £2,600 for Air Ambulance and RABI. There is already another Tractor Run arranged for May 2022, with a Spring Rally planned for June 2022. For this year, two open days for new members are being held with free entry for you and a friend at the Grendon Club, and don’t forget that for a small fee the YFC’s across the country will collect your Christmas tree in January and recycle them for you.

So if you want to meet like-minded people, have a good social life, put something back into the community, want to feel good about yourself and what you’ve achieved, want to learn some new skills, are up for a challenge, want a laugh and to be part of a team – join your local Young Farmers’ Club!
