March and April are the months when our
gardens start to wake, with plants showing
new signs of growth and trees coming back
into blossom.
One of the fi rst signs of spring arriving is the
emergence of daffodils which, depending
on variety, will be in fl ower March through to
April. Being the National Flower of Wales, it
is said that giving a gift of daffodils will bring
happiness to the recipient for the next 12
months, though you should never just offer a
single stem, but always a bunch.
Narciclasine is a compound within the bulb
that scientists have found has medicinal
benefi ts – though you should not go out and
eat them! Also be aware that daffodil bulbs
can make your dog very poorly. If you forgot
to plant up your bulbs for this spring, don’t
fret, you can still buy a lovely arrangement
from us with daffodils mixed in.

have seen a new character that has been
appearing over the last few weeks. Bozzy
will be appearing every Friday with the latest
hints and tips for your garden. Nothing
complicated, just simple advice that’s easy
to follow. Some of you may well recognise
Bozzy too?

Mother’s Day or to give it the correct title in
the UK, Mothering Sunday, is celebrated this
year on the 22nd March. With its origins in
religion, Mothering Sunday is observed on
the 4th Sunday in Lent, exactly three weeks
before Easter Sunday, and was essentially to
give thanks to Mother Mary. People would
be required to make a visit to their “mother”
church. With many in service working away
and for young apprentices it was often a time
of family reunion and was spent with their
own mothers. Whilst these days it has less
of a religious connotation, we still keep the
date as a way of thanks to our own mothers.

We have two special events at Bosworth’s to
treat Mum this year. At our Burton Latimer
site we have our Afternoon Tea and at Elton
we have a traditional set lunch menu on offer.
Every Mum in your party will receive a potted
plant to take home. We also have a great
range of gifts and arrangements to show
Mum how special she is.

Did you know that we do coach trips? This is
something that we used to do many years back, that
Sam’s mum used to organise. We revived this a
few years back and have some new venues for this
year including Kew Gardens, Thursford Christmas
Spectacular plus our regulars visits to Malvern, BBC
Gardeners World and London. If you would like
more information or to book please visit our website
at www.bosworthsgc.co.uk/coach-trips
Finally we would like to congratulate Vivi on 15 years
of Village Connect. Looking back to 2005, Doctor
Who returned to our screens after an absence of 16
years, Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth was opened
and the very fi rst World Naked Gardening Day was
celebrated! Congratulations Vivi and here is to the
next 15 years.
