Happy New Year, and happy new decade! Here’s to the roaring twenties, or whatever they will be nicknamed in due course.

Perhaps better not to mention the ‘B’ word - at the time of writing, our exit from the European Union is due to be on 31st January. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens...

What is scheduled to definitely happen though is an extra day, on 29th February, as this year is a Leap Year.

We’ve also got the shifted Bank Holiday in May to commemorate VE Day, something to bear in mind if you’re booking time off work, going away etc. This change means Friday 8th May is now a Bank Holiday - double check your diaries and calendars as some may have been printed before this change was confi rmed!

2020 is also an Olympic year, with Japan performing hosting honours. Seeing how welcoming and enthusiastic the Japanese people were when the Rugby World Cup took place there in 2019, I’m sure it’s going to be a fantastic event for all concerned. Much closer to home, the fi nal instalment of Corby’s fabulous three-year Grow Festival takes place on 7th and 8th
February.

This year sees a celebration of ‘Light’, and the event will incorporate the highly successful Corby Mardi Gras.

Expect to see performances, activities and experiences light up the town centre featuring all things illuminating - just what is needed to brighten up our winter days. This celebration of light follows on from 2018’s ‘Water’ and 2019’s ‘Food’, all the items necessary for growth, highly appropriate for what is said to be the fastest growing region outside of the London area. Wrap up warm and enjoy the sights!
