Radon gas is the second-leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking. Radon gas can’t be seen, smelt or tasted - it comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water and gets into the air we breathe. Radon typically moves up through the ground to the air above and into your home through cracks and other holes in the foundation, and specialist test kits are required to detect it. Testing your levels for three months gives you an accurate reading of the average radon level in your home. They will post you two detectors to place in your home: one in the living area and one in an occupied bedroom. After three months simply post the detectors back to their lab, in the pre-paid envelope provided. The lab will then analyse the detectors and post/ email the results to you. The result will give the yearly average radon level in your home and will tell you whether it is above or below the Action Level and advise whether remediation work is necessary.
