Celebrating its 60th production

Kettering Gang Show will be celebrating its 60th production this year. First conceived by Ralph Reader CBE way back in 1932, when he started to produce annual variety shows to raise money for Scouting funds, The London Gang Show was born.  The format quickly spread throughout the country and indeed the world, with local groups staging their own shows and, in 1959, the very first Kettering Gang Show was produced by Trevor Richardson in the Rockingham Road Methodist Hall.

Over the years there have been many milestones achieved and many memories made. The show has been performed in only six venues: 1959 Rockingham Road Methodist Hall; 1960-1963 Co-op Central Hall; 1964-1974 Savoy Theatre; 19752006 McKinlay Theatre; 2008-2017 Lighthouse Theatre (two shows in 2008); and since 2018 Masque Theatre.  The Kettering Gang Show has always been very popular and has achieved a strong reputation as being one of the best; in 1965, it was awarded the coveted “Red Neckerchief”, the award that Ralph Reader established for shows that reached the defined standard for what a “Gang Show” should be.  Many thousands of people have enjoyed the songs, sketches and general family entertainment that Kettering Gang Show has delivered over the years.

With its 60th production, Glendon District (Kettering & Corby) Scout Council proudly presents “Kettering Gang Show… Trouble with Time!”  Something strange is happening in the McKinlay Home for retired Gang Show actors and actresses.  As Grandad explains to Emily, Janet and John, everybody is mysteriously forgetting the scenes they’ve all acted out for decades, and all at the same time!  What on earth can be going on?

Billed as “The Ultimate in Family Entertainment” and featuring songs, dances and comedy, performed by a talented cast of over 50 Scouts and Guides, there really is something for everyone in the show this year!
