Without wishing to repeat myself, where
has this year gone? Yet another 12
months have simply flown by, and here I am
again, thinking about Christmas and New Year,
and how much I have to do and how little time
I have to do it all in!

This time of year also marks when Julie and
Neil Smith took over as owners and publicans
of one of my favourite pubs of all-time, The
Hatton Arms in Gretton. The couple have just
celebrated a very special anniversary, with ten
years behind the bar - and in the kitchen in
Chef Neil’s case!

The historic pub, dating back to the early 14th
century, is reputed to be the second oldest in
the whole of Northamptonshire and is located
in Arnhill Road, in the heart of the stone-built
conservation area of the village.

Boasting stunning panoramic views over the
glorious Welland Valley from the restaurant and
outdoor decking area, there really is nowhere
finer to enjoy a meal or a drink, and soak up
the sights of the beautiful Northamptonshire
and Rutland countryside.

I’m sure many readers will appreciate that
ten years successfully running a pub is quite
an achievement, particularly in the recent
economic downturn and with the numerous
challenges that the industry is facing.

That’s why during November, the pub is
offering a special celebratory tenth anniversary
menu, featuring favourite dishes requested by
patrons who’ve dined at the pub over the past
ten years. I’m just hoping my favourite Beef
Strogonoff makes an appearance!

All that’s left for me to say now is have a very
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
