Dear Reader Brightkidz, see page 40, is encouraging active travel by inspiring children to walk, cycle or scoot to school - something to bear in mind as the ‘back to school’ season approaches. Helen Bach also reminisces on ‘back to school’ on page 48 and the joys of buying new stationery from one of the branches of Colemans. From its beginnings in Higham Ferrers in 1969, this family-owned company is celebrating its 50th anniversary by opening a new concept store, see pages 22-23. More anniversaries are featured on the pages ahead: Clare’s Cakery has been providing fabulous gluten-free baking for ten years, see page 32, and Brigstock Beer Festival celebrates its 15th anniversary by going ‘Stateside’, see pages 44-45. Two rather unusual traditions will take place in Geddington this September: The GVFB Trundle 2019, now in its 20th year, followed by the Battle of the Brook, see pages 28-29. Kettering Gang Show will be performing its 60th production of ultimate family entertainment, see pages 76-77. As the days draw in, we can still enjoy colourful displays of nature’s glory. Kelmarsh Hall & Gardens hosts two Dahlia Festival events in September, see page 60, and Lyveden pays tribute to anything ‘apple’ with orchard trails and juicing weekends, see page 56. In addition to Lyveden, Delapré Abbey, see page 16, and Rockingham Castle, see page 24, will be suitably spooky settings for a family-friendly Halloween. Have a glorious autumn…
