Our plant nursery will now be at full capacity during March and April.  The team on the nursery do an amazing job and it really is a sight to see the rows and rows of plants all lined up.  This is the one part of the business that the general public don’t get to see unfortunately.

In fact, we grow an average of one million plants on our nursery which you will find for sale within our garden centres.  Look out for the “grown at” logo on our homegrown plants.  In terms of plant miles, they will have literally only travelled a couple of hundred feet to get to the “shop floor”.  Of course, we do buy stock in from other nurseries too, which is mainly our trees, shrubs and conifers.

Much of this is sourced from the UK but we do also have suppliers in Holland.  At the time of writing, Brexit is very much in everyone’s mind and how this affects our purchasing we will have to wait and see, other than to say you can rest assured that our Planterea at Burton Latimer and Plant Centre at Elton will be bursting with plants as usual.

With March and April being the busiest two months of the gardening calendar for us, the last few weeks have seen the shelves being topped up with stock ready for the new season.  This year we have a range of chemical-free products to include lawn care, weed killers, plant and lawn feeds, slug and snail killers, a perfect choice if you are looking, as we all are, to be a little kinder to the planet. Mother’s Day is at the end of March (31st) and we have Mother’s Day Afternoon Teas at both our garden centres, and at Elton we also have a Mothering Sunday Lunch with a choice of one, two or three courses prepared by our in house chefs.

Our coach trips start again in March and for this year we have added some new destinations along with some of your favourites.  These include the Tatton Park Flower Show and Countryfile Live and a Taste of Autumn at Wisley.

Our trips start from only £15pp and are a great way to see some of the fantastic shows and gardens that are on offer around the country. March and April are the months when the garden starts to come back to life with daffodils, tulips and primroses in flower, bringing some much-needed colour back to our gardens.

Camellias will start to bud, magnolias will start flowering and one of the first trees to display its blossom will be the ornamental cherries (prunus). Now is the time to start preparing your flower beds, but if you are finding this a struggle, don’t have the time or are simply busy with life then let our Garden Care team lend a hand.  From one-off garden tidy to regular garden maintenance get in touch with us.  Garden Care is part of our Landscaping division and full details can be found on the website
