There is so much going on in the Garden Centres this Autumn and Winter that I sometimes think we are an entertainments venue as well as a shop!  But with the loss, and struggles, this year of several wellknown high street retailers, we realise that retailing has changed so much that ‘theatre’, ‘entertainment’ and ‘experiences’ are all key to providing something to our customers that the Internet and bland-out-of-town retail parks cannot do.  I am sure if Dad was still here, he would be hiding in the furthest greenhouse away from the mayhem, but it certainly provides a lively atmosphere.

Santa is going to be really busy this year, he is visiting our Tea with Santa events at Burton Latimer and Elton, he is at Burton Latimer to provide a magical story-time event for the younger children, and then back to Elton for his ‘Breakfast with Santa’ - which is new this year.  Our Giant Snowglobe is going to provide fun for all the family, you will also be able to enjoy the most amazing new animated reindeer display we are putting the finishing touches to.

Talking of Reindeer, we have also for the first time booked some real live reindeer to be on site during the main Christmas tree season; they will be at Burton Latimer for the first two Saturdays in December and at Elton for the first two Sundays.

As we all know, they have flown down from Lapland for the season, but have been staying recently at a farm near Raunds, so they do not have to travel too far and will be going back to the farm each evening.  This will be great fun and a wonderful chance for the youngsters to see them up close.  The Reindeer will also be helping to raise some money for Cransley Hospice, so do come and see them.

It has been wonderful to see so many of our Burton Latimer customers visiting the new site at Elton; the team over there have settled in really well and are maintaining our reputation for great plants and service.  The catering team in The Mulberry Café have also been hard at work planning for the festive season, they have a great Christmas Menu available during the days in December, and have also been working closely with Amps Wines to create a ‘Flight of the Wines’ evening on Thursday 13th December.

This is a five-course meal, with a different wine to accompany each course, the Amps team will be there to talk about each wine, so it should be a fantastic experience.

A lot of work has been done over the summer by Jonathan and Alec, in our Marketing and IT department, to set up an online booking system for all our events, and also for table reservations in our cafés.  All events, with more detail such as menus, timings and availability, can be seen at www. bosworthsgc.co.uk

Tania and her team have again produced some inspiring, and magical, Christmas displays, the level of detail and the way that the colours and products work together is breath-taking.  I also need to again mention the work that Adam has done in actually building the displays, his ability to put everything together (and I mean everything) is amazing, as is his ability to interpret Tania’s creative vision, something I have struggled to do in 27 years of marriage!

We look forward to welcoming you to our centres this November and December, whether it be for gardening, Christmas or food.  Above all, we hope you have a happy and peaceful Christmas, remembering the Christmas message amongst all the fun and mayhem.
