The Great British Summer is here at last - let’s hope it’s a good one! Summer means many different things to people, but for me it is Pimm’s and lemonade, Wimbledon, barbecues, village fêtes, car shows and music festivals. Here in Northamptonshire I will be visiting the Gretton Music Festival which is taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend, from Friday 26th to Monday 29th August.
This annual event, now in its seventh year and thought to be the largest community based music festival in the county, is sponsored by Seatons Solicitors. It takes place at various venues throughout the village including Lydia’s Coffee Shop, the Sports and Social Club, the Village Hall, The Bluebell Inn, The Talbot and The Hatton Arms. Last year’s event attracted much media interest and was even featured on BBC Look East!
This year’s headline act is The Top Banana Band who wowed the crowd at last year’s Open Mic session at The Hatton Arms. This local ninepiece funk, soul and blues group - who play a mixture of covers guaranteed to get everyone up and dancing - will be performing on Sunday 28th August at Gretton Village Hall.
Another personal favourite of mine is the opera event hosted by impresario and local resident Martin McEvoy. This year, we will be enjoying ‘Viva Verdi & Viva Vino!’ which, as the name suggests, includes Martin sharing his knowledge and expertise of all things operatic over a glass or two of wine - very enjoyable and informative.
For those who want to show off their own talent, the ever-popular Open Mic session at The Hatton Arms is on in the afternoon and early evening of Bank Holiday Monday 29th August. Don’t worry, I won’t be taking to the stage and performing!
