Dahlia Fiesta in September

A colourful, vibrant celebration of all things dahlia will take place at Kelmarsh Hall & Garden this September, in the first event of its kind.

Dahlia Fiesta will see every Sunday in September have a special theme in recognition of the collection of dahlias on display in Kelmarsh Hall’s historic kitchen garden. Along with speakers, garden tours, dahlia clinics and flower arranging demonstrations, Dahlia Month will also celebrate the heritage of these flowers, which originate from South America, so there are also plans for salsa dancing in the hall and music.

Aimed at both enthusiastic gardeners who are just starting out in dahlia growing as well as more experienced growers, the emphasis will be on having fun while discovering more about these wonderful flowers.

Kelmarsh Hall prides itself on its extensive collection of dahlias, which includes some of the more unusual varieties. The collection is magnificently displayed in a striking double border and this year 20 new varieties have been added. There are also some rare American varieties in a nod to the hall’s previous owner Nancy Lancaster, who was celebrated for her interior design and gardens.

Well-known gardener James Alexander-Sinclair is supporting the event and is the guest speaker on Sunday 7th September. In his opinion, dahlias are more colourful than a bucket of parrots and more exotic than a tropical sunset and The Kelmarsh Hall dahlia fiesta is something not to be missed.  Kelmarsh Gardener Fiona Alexandra has always found the dahlias a delight in late summer and decided to celebrate them and make enthusiasts aware of Kelmarsh as a dahlia venue. She hopes this will be the start of an annual celebration.

Dahlia Fiesta will take place on the four Sundays in September: 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th. Events take place from midday to 4pm.  There will be a single entry fee to the hall, gardens and all the events: £7.50 for adults, £4.50 for concessions and free entry for under 5s. More information will be available at www.kelmarsh.com.

Kelmarsh Hall is located on the A508 between Market Harborough and Northampton, NN6 9LY. For further information visit the Hall’s website at www.kelmarsh.com
