Where has this year gone? Maybe I should have said “Where did summer go?” All that rain; so many events cancelled! One consolation is that the countryside and gardens have looked extremely lush.

Not all plants have enjoyed the wet weather though, geraniums and fuchsias have been really
disappointing but begonias have loved it. Next year, I will certainly use them more.
Now that autumn is approaching, I love the change of season. Mists in the morning leaving the spiders’ webs hanging like old lace in the trees and hedgerows and there is something magical about the way the countryside transforms from green to gold and blazing shades of red.

Like the countryside we change the colour of fl owers in the shop too, with fewer pink and
pastel shades to gorgeous burnt oranges, reds and purples. Bloom chrysanthemums, sunfl owers, hyperican berries, green gladioli and orange roses make a lovely autumnal bouquet.

At the shop In August we had some lovely news. Lynne became a grandma for the fi rst time to a baby girl called Holly. Every day we share with our customers, happy times, congratulations and celebrations new births and anniversaries, but most days too, we share the saddest time in our lives as well. Flowers can speak volumes. A bouquet to the bereaved will send that “thinking of you” message with no need for words.

Funeral tributes are so important too, one of the most diffi cult things to do to choose flowers that is signifi cant to that person... and for those left. A husband might choose fl owers that his wife had in her wedding bouquet or a wife might choose fl owers which her husband bought for her regularly or grew in his garden; tractors, golf clubs, teddy bears, footballs and many more all will hold very special memories.

Being in a small community, we often know the family of the bereaved which makes it even more personal for us to do, nothing will ever take that dreadful pain of grief away, but for me when loosing members of my family that beautiful fl oral tribute on top of the  casket helped a little to take the sting from that fi nal journey.

A funeral to us is as special as any wedding. After all, these fl owers are the last gift of love we can give x
