8th Birthday for Thrapston Specialist

Funky Lil’ Feet, the children’s shoe shop and foot and gait specialist, is celebrating its 8th Birthday this month. To mark the occasion, Jane Warne and her team are giving readers of Village Connect a 10% discount on purchases, just mention this advert when paying.

Funky Lil’ Feet opened on Huntingdon Road in 2005, when Jane set out to provide a children’s shoe shop specialising in well fi tting yet beautiful shoes that please both the parent and child. Eight years on and the concept has turned into a very successful reality. Funky Lil’ Feet now employs ten people, all of whom are trained by Jane to ensure every parent receives the same high standard of proper fi tting and care. From school shoes by Start-Rite to the most beautiful Continental shoes, Funky Lil’ Feet has it all and can cater for every half size and every width up to a UK 9 (size 40).

For the latest addition to the family:

A baby’s foot is not just a smaller version of our own. At birth, the 26 bones that will eventually make the adult foot are mostly cartilage which makes them pliable and susceptible to damage. To allow for baby’s feet to develop naturally without distortion always keep bedclothes loose fi tting and light so the feet are not restricted. Likewise, always ensure there is plenty of room in their babygros and tights/socks, etc. to prevent curling of the toes which can result in permanent damage to growing bones.Encourage your baby to exercise its feet by kicking and similar actions, as this helps to develop the foot muscles.

For the toddler and young child:

on’t force your child into walking. They will start when they are ready usually between
10 and 20 months of age. Encourage your child to walk barefoot indoors as this allows the foot to develop and strengthen. When your child is on its feet and attempting the fi rst tottering steps you are ready to buy their fi rst tot style shoes.

Always ensure your shoes are purchased in a reputable shoe shop, where children’s feet are properly measured and fi tted by a trained member of staff and where there is a selection of shoes offered in different width fi ttings and half sizes. All feet are different and at Funky Lil’ Feet the team will also take into account the shape and depth of the foot whilst fi tting the shoes

- therefore thinking outside of the shoe box
- which means that sometimes your child’s foot will not fi t the size they measured on
the gauge!

Inspect your child’s feet regularly as children often can’t feel any damage being done.
Look for any abnormalities such as cuts, breaks in the skin and any unusual changes in colour or temperature.

Funky Lil’ Feet will help you choose shoes that give your child stability, support and protection. An ideal shoe should be soft and fl exible with breathable leather uppers and fully adjusting fastenings to ensure a snug fi t.

Pop back in to have a fi tting check when you’re passing, ideally between six and eight weeks after the fi rst fi t. You will get an honest assessment; our fi tters are not paid any commission on sales and do not have any sales targets to achieve.

We simply want to give the best help and advice we can!
