Entries are now being received for the 2013 Oundle Festival of Music and Drama and close on 16th January.

The Festival, which runs from March 23rd to March 27th, has classes for competitors of all
ages (groups and individuals) from preschool to senior citizens in both Speech and Drama
and Music. Musical styles include classical, jazz, pop, folk and barbershop. This is your chance to receive some constructive advice and praise from eminent adjudicators, all highly qualified in their field. Oundle Festival has a national reputation as a friendly Festival where everyone is there to help with your performance. Please note that juniors do not necessarily have to be entered through a school - parents can enter individuals for any classes.

The 2012 Festival was a great success and it was good to welcome new school groups including Gretton Primary, Thomas Deacon Peterborough, Sir Malcolm Sargent Primary, Stamford and Bourne Academy. All newcomers had considerable success winning awards and were congratulated on the way they all entered in to the spirit of the Festival.

The singing was of a very high standard with Oundle and Kings Cliffe Middle School winning the award for the best interpretation of a choral piece with their performance of John Rutter’s ‘The Lord bless you and keep you’. Prince William School Oundle, under 18 Choir, were given the distinction mark of 90 for their choir programme, which included an outstanding performance of John Taverner’s ‘The Lamb’.

The competition for the Young Singer of the Year was awarded to Katherine McLean, Raunds, for her performance of ‘Gimme Gimme’, solo song from musical theatre. Prince William School and Oundle and Kings Cliffe Middle School bands and orchestras provided an exhilarating session of high class entertainment and the Festival ended with a concert given by outstanding performers from the four-day Festival, including the play-off for the Young Musician of the Year Award. This was won by violinist, Becky Taylor of Morton, near Bourne, for her playing of Kreisler’s Praeludium and Allegro.
