Martin Henson of Crystal Oven Cleaning in Thrapston will be running the London Marathon 2012 on behalf of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in honour of his father.

Martin’s father was diagnosed with lung cancer nearly three years ago and, true to form, he has battled it ever since and is still, at the age of 88, soldiering on and able to carry out most of his household chores and enjoy the odd day out with the family. Martin’s father is one of the lucky ones, as many people with this awful disease do not last as long as he has.

Martin is most proud of his father and wanted to do something not only to show his appreciation of him and of the other people suffering from this disease, but also to try to help the many doctors, scientists and carers trying to help to cure the disease or alleviate the suffering of those who have it.

Lung cancer claims more lives than any other cancer. The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is wholly dedicated to defeating lung cancer and funds unique research into the early detection of lung cancer, health promotion work and lung cancer patient care. Although Martin has run a couple of marathons previously, these were all around 30 years ago! He is now in the gruelling process of building up to around 60 miles per week to prepare for the April challenge.

Martin would, therefore, be grateful for any offers/pledges of sponsorship, however small, in order for him to reach or, hopefully, exceed the minimum sponsorship pledge of £2,000. You can sponsor Martin safely and securely via www.justgiving.com/martinRCLCF or contact him on 01832 734076
