Wow, what a great summer with the Olympics! Between puppies, outside events and covering Here at Waterloo Cottage Farm we had our fi rst taster of outside catering running a stall serving hot pork rolls, homemade cakes and drinks for the Lion’s Sports and Fun Day in Welland Park. As with many events the weather proved to be very wet keeping many people away; however, our large tent enabled many to shelter during the monsoon-like showers. We learnt a lot from this event about gas ovens, gas urns, how much food to prepare and will put that to good use next time we are asked to man a stall. On the farm, we have taken all summer to get over the rain. We still haven’t got rid of the mud ruts and reseeded the fi eld behind the house; let’s hope we have an Indian summer to give us some time to prepare for next winter. Our lambs from this year are growing well and we are planning to keep most of them to increase the fl ock of breeding ewes. Angus is desperate to start buying his cattle, I am not so keen to increase the workload. I am Tom has been perfecting our handraised pork pies, they look very artisan and taste great. We have been working on them for several months now and have gone from some customers telling us they were ‘horrid’ to absolutely fabulous. The pies take about three days to make and will be ready every Friday. Look out for our open days, they will be advertised in local press, weekly loyalty customer emails and on the roadside signs. Each open day will have a selection of suppliers offering free tastings and there will also be a selection of special offers in store.
