Dear Reader

Recent months have been marked by a mix of complete political chaos and pure medals galore at the Rio 2016 Olympics.  On a personal level, the main highlight of the summer was our Emily’s graduation in Bristol; another milestone reached and a stark reminder of just how fast time flies - it really does not feel that long ago since she started primary school here in Geddington...
Now we enter the season of change, of starting or going back to school, commencing higher education or starting working life.  Some may, during the holidays, have pondered over making changes to lifestyles or direction of work.  Inspirational examples can be found on pages 8-9 and 12-13, where two local couples have taken the plunge and recently started up their own businesses; on page 66 you can read about the Muddy Stilettos Awards for those who have already made it far.  Maybe you want to open your horizons on a slightly smaller scale: take up a new hobby or rekindle a forgotten one?  On the pages ahead, you will find plenty of incentives to pick up a foreign language, become a volunteer or scout leader, attend art or history classes, start archery, badminton, yoga or pilates sessions - the choice is endless!

Harvest time is upon us with orchards bursting and morning mist and mustiness in the air.  You can take part in Apple Day at Lyveden, see page 60, to learn all about orchard maintenance and apple pressing, and you can enjoy the celebrations of all things Dahlia at Kelmarsh Hall & Gardens, see page 56 and the glorious front cover.  Boughton House opens its gardens for a final show of the season, and Althorp House holds its second Food and Drink Festival, see page 80.  Deep Roots Tall Trees celebrate our local woods, see page 70, and the Nene Valley Festival will take place in many of our natural and historic settings - so much still to do in the great outdoors.

Market Harborough’s Arts Fresco returns, see page 40, and there are scarecrow festivals, dog shows, fun days, beer festivals and Halloween events still to attend over the months to come.  Add to those, outdoor and indoor cinema screenings, theatre performances, concerts, Music In Special Places, see page 68, and Oundle Festival of Literature, see page 38, and you will not be short of things to do as we inevitably head for autumn.
