At this moment in time, it is common practice to reflect back on the year as it ebbs away, take stock, consider making lifestyle changes or improve on the outlook - in short: making New Year’s resolutions.

You can develop your skill set through adult learning, take up sewing (see pages 16-17), participate in the many art classes on offer, look into your family history, get your dancing shoes on - the choice is endless!  Many will also reassess their work situation and, like myself back in 2005, consider setting up their own business.  It is hard to believe that the ten-year anniversary of Village Connect is approaching, but time flies quickly when you are having fun...

Maybe you would like to get more involved in your local community?  Cats Protection and Lyveden New Bield are looking for volunteers, and Geddington Gardening Club, see page 62, are hoping many readers will participate in the annual Village Show to avoid it becoming obsolete.  Parent power has just ensured that Trinity CE Lower School in Aldwincle now has an outdoor zone to enhance learning, see page 86, so maybe that would be something for you to consider?

Perhaps you are a closet author?  If so, read the article on creative minds writing on page 72 or, if gardening is more your thing, turn to Sam Bosworth’s article on pages 52-53 on how to best plan your garden for the spring and summer that thankfully await us ahead.

If you seek to be more active, enjoy our wonderful countryside on foot, as suggested by Helen Bach on page 56, or take part in the Snowdrop Walk in Harrington, page 74.     Rushden Lakes will soon get the first Wildlife Trust visitor centre in our area, see page 76, and there are many other beautiful spots and country parks perfect for winter hikes or strolls.  If you want to go a step further, join the Workplace Challenge on page 54 or challenge yourself for charity.  Cransley Hospice suggests many options from fire walking to sky diving on pages 96-97.  For extreme adventures, Felicity Aston’s story of her travels across the Pole of Cold on page 64 may influence you, or you could seek inspiration at the Adventure Travel show, see pages 80-81, for thrilling ventures around the globe.  Readers of Village Connect get a discount when booking, and there is a chance to win free tickets as well.

There are an abundance of cinema showings, concerts and theatre events to keep us entertained during January and February, so no excuse not to venture out.  Whatever your resolutions may be, do something new and enjoy it.

I wish you a happy, healthy and inspiring 2015!
