Dear Reader

What a wonderful start to the season!  Sunny days, blue skies, bulbs and blossoms bursting open to allow Mother Nature to show off her new coat of botanical bounty.  The sound of birdsong mixes with that of busy lawn movers, bringing promises of a glorious summer ahead.

So much to do over the coming months, as our focus turns to the great outdoors.  Corby Walking Festival, see page 36,  will be in its sixth year and, at the beginning of May, we welcome world-class cycling as The Women’s Tour passes through our region, see pages 8-9.  Equestrian fans will delight in the return of Dingley Races, see page 24, and you can push the boat out to have a go at sailing for free at our local RYA clubs, see page 60, or paddle and enjoy wildlife at the same time, as described on page 106.  The options are endless!

There are butchery and sous vide master classes at Waterloo Cottage Farm, pages 20-21; paint and lampshade workshops at Asha’s, see page 18; and painting and floristry courses at Kelmarsh Hall, see pages 48-49  You could arrange for a spring clean in your village with the support of East Northants Council, see page 110, or perhaps become part of the emergency planning in your area, see page 98?

An abundance of national garden scheme open days, fêtes, fairs and re-enactments, delightful concerts and theatre performances are taking place on our doorstep, just look to the pages to pick your choice.  Lots to do over both bank holiday weekends and great ways to treat your Dad for Father’s Day are suggested too.

Not surprisingly, this is my favourite time of year: nature at its fullest, brimming with unspoilt hope and ready to be explored!  Whether you’re preparing for exams or working hard, take a break and enjoy this special time - life’s there for the living...
