Helping you to stay active in your community
As you get older, or perhaps because you’ve always lived with a disability, it can be hard to get to those places that really matter to you. If you fi nd yourself at home more than you’d like, you may wish you could see more people in your home.
That’s where Volunteer Action (VA) can help. We provide a car scheme for those who cannot access public transport and can take you to many of the places you would like to go – not just the hospital and doctor’s surgery (although they are, of course, offered!) but also shopping, to the hairdresser, to visit friends etc. We also run a befriending service of volunteers willing to come out & chat regularly. Our aim is to help improve your well-being and how you defi ne ‘wellbeing’ is largely down to you.
CAR SCHEME: We charge our registered members 40p per mile, with a minimum charge of £3. We have drivers and cars able to take wheelchairs or frames.
BEFRIENDING SCHEME: This is a free service. We will match one of our volunteers to you. They will come out to your house a couple of times per month for a chat. If you, or someone you know, might benefi t from this, please call the offi ce to arrange an initial assessment. All our volunteers hold current DBS checks and freely give their time.
Our ‘catchment area’ includes Oundle and Thrapston and extends from Easton-on-the- Hill through all villages to Titchmarsh. If you are interested in volunteering with us, we would love to talk to you. Please get in touch.
Opening hours: Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm.
