Celebrating 10th annual production
Thrapston Plaza Opera was founded by Vincent Davy in 2010, with its inaugural production being a performance of Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ in February 2011.
The aim has been to present good quality productions involving the local community. Soloists sometimes come from further afi eld but most of the chorus are locally based. Children are recruited from local schools to take part when required. All operas are sung in English accompanied by an orchestra of experienced players.
Operas are staged in The Thrapston Plaza and offer audiences a chance to experience grand opera locally at affordable prices! Annual productions have included: ‘Carmen’ - Bizet, ‘The Bartered Bride’ - Smetana, ‘Aida’ - Verdi, ‘Die Fledermaus’ - Strauss, ‘Madame Butterfl y’ - Puccini, ‘La Vie Parisienne’ - Offenbach, ‘Eugene Onegin’ - Tchaikovsky, ‘La Traviata’ - Verdi and ‘The Daughter of the Regiment’ - Donizetti. For the Tenth Anniversary Production, Thrapston Plaza Opera will again be staging ‘Carmen’ in the Plaza on 18th, 19th, 21st and 22nd February 2020.
Principal roles were cast at auditions held last June and rehearsals have been in full swing now since mid September. Anyone wishing to be involved helping backstage or front of house please get in touch.
Meanwhile, tickets £15 (£12 before 1st Feb), children £6, are now available from the Box Offi ce – booking details online, see website.
