This summer the people of Cotterstock, near Oundle, are displaying wedding dresses which were mostly worn by them, their families or friends.  The exhibition will chart the evolution of bridal fashion from  1870 to the present day and attract visitors to the beautiful village church of St. Andrew (PE8 5HD) on Saturday 30th June and Sunday 1st July from 11am until 5pm.

Wedding dresses, shoes, veils and photographs will show how styles have changed over the decades and give a lovely flavour of times gone by.  Cambridge Vintage Bridal has been very helpful in loaning two of the older dresses and The Wedding Room, with shops in Stamford and Peterborough, are displaying a current dress and lending some of their mannequins as are Martin Charles Bridal Gallery of Oundle.

There will be a display of precious antique wedding jewellery, engagement rings, earrings and necklaces, all kindly loaned by Nigel Hill of Harpur’s of Oundle.  Royal Wedding Memorabilia will be exhibited too including a mug commemorating Queen Victoria’s wedding.

A wedding cake from Hockleys of Brixworth will set the bridal scene and the church will be decorated with flower arrangements as though a wedding is to take place.

Admission is £5 which includes a complimentary soft drink; there will also be homemade cakes and refreshments served in the village hall.  All proceeds will go to the conservation of the church and village hall.  Dresses depicted are from 1908 and 1953.
