Probus Clubs have been around within the UK since 1966. There are over 4000 such clubs worldwide.
Originally, the clubs were created as luncheon clubs for retired ex-Rotarians to enable members to remain in contact with their colleagues socially after retirement. These days, Probus Clubs are open to any retired gentlemen who enjoy social contact with colleagues of like mind.
Thrapston and District Probus Club members meet once a month at The Bridge Hotel to enjoy good company over a drink and a meal. After a brief meeting to discuss club activities, members are entertained by guest speakers on a variety of topics. Occasionally, group outings are arranged to places of interest, usually partners or guests can accompany members. Previous visits have included the Houses of Parliament; Apethorpe Palace; and the Rolls Royce Heritage Trust Display.
