This promises to be one of the most exciting and unusual concerts of the year, with the audience being split into groups to tour the School and enjoy simultaneous performances from musicians taking place across many venues. Expect to visit some of the less familiar corners of our beautiful grounds and to hear some paradoxical pieces pitted against unusual venues. Jazz Bands, Orchestras, Choirs and Soloists feature.
Massed Young Musicians Friday 14th October, 1.30pm - Oundle School Tickets required – free of charge. Please register interest by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Following our popular Strings, Brass and Woodwind days, and hearing the message from schools that getting permission to attend many events was difficult, we are placing all the Schools’ events into one day whilst maintaining the specialism of the instrumental families. Oundle’s Heads of Instruments, alongside many experienced tutors, will lead workshops and performances for all grades, ages and abilities in a plethora of venues around our beautiful School, working towards a final presentation. Please bring picnic lunches for 1pm.
Oundle Strings with Royal College of Music String Band Monday 31st October, 7.45pm Great Hall, New Street, Oundle All welcome. No tickets required
Our partnership with the RCM continues to flourish, and it is a project such as this one that enables us to tackle trickier repertoire with tremendously fulfilling results. Elgar’s multi-layered symphonic poem for strings, written in 1905, is now recognised as a masterful work offering chances for virtuosic playing to reign supreme. Vaughan Williams’ Dives and Lazarus was written just before the outbreak of WWII, whilst the oboe concerto was a commission for the 1944 Proms (curtailed due to V1 rocket raids on London). We could offer no greater encapsulation of the English string orchestral sound, complete with the stellar crew of the RCM String Band (and legendary players of our own).
