Take time this festive season to consider changing a young person’s life, and yours.
At this time of year thoughts often turn to family and friends; however, for dozens of children awaiting foster placements in Northamptonshire it can be a time of loneliness and uncertainty.
With a shortage of foster carers across the region, Foster Care Associates (FCA) wants to hear from potential carers who can find room in their lives to provide a safe, stable and happy home to children and young people.
There are all kinds of families and individuals who can begin the hugely rewarding journey into foster care, but what all carers have in common is the energy and commitment to make a difference to the lives of those in their care.
Karen Cann, operations manager for FCA in Northamptonshire, said: “We’ve been working with children and young people for 21 years and our experience shows that one-to-one support in a family setting is the best way to help these children overcome their issues and deal with their past. Our team of social care professionals work closely with our foster carers to deliver intensive, holistic support tailored to the individual needs of each young person and carer.”
“We have some fabulous foster carers across Northamptonshire and hope our ‘Finding Room to Foster’ campaign will encourage more people in the region to make room in their life and seriously consider becoming a foster carer.” Foster carers with FCA receive frequent visits and contact from a dedicated and qualified social worker. Support is also provided through an education officer, support workers and therapist to help carers meet the individual needs a child or young person.
Ongoing training, a financial allowance, access to carer support groups and organised family activities are all contributing factors as to why FCA placements are 22% more stable than the national average.
