Siverstone Classic Celebrates Silver Anniversary 24/25/26 July 2015 by Christopher and Lynda Brooks - Aerophoto

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Silverstone Classic. First held in 1990, it proved to be the catalyst for the many historic racing events that followed. At that time, such events just didn’t exist in Britain and it took Stuart Graham, the only man to have won Tourist Trophy races on both two wheels and four, to pioneer this fi rst meeting after noting the success of historic events in Germany and the USA.

Old Favourites and New Additions

Traditional favourites include the FIA Masters Historic F1 Championship, the RAC Historic Tourist Trophy for pre-1963 GT cars, the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship for pre-1966 GT cars, and Group C Le Mans type cars which will run into dusk on the Saturday evening. New additions for this year include the Guards Trophy for pre-1966 GTs and pre- 1969 sportscars, while to commemorate Silverstone’s 75th anniversary as a bomber base in the Second World War, two Battle of Britain races for British built pre-1966 GTs, touring cars and sportscars. Following their success last year, the 90’s GT Legends will be back, and will be joined by a high speed demonstration of 90’s F1 Legends.

Car Clubs Displays and Track Demo’s

Such a major part of this event, over 114 car clubs are expected with at least 10,000 privately owned classic cars attending over the weekend. There will also be a new Friday lunchtime parade when many of these anniversary cars can take to the track.

Silver Sunday Track Parade

Open to owners of silver cars of all ages, for a fee of £25 extra, there will be a huge eclectic mix of cars taking to the track on Sunday helping to mark Silverstone’s Silver Jubilee.
