Start 2015 as you mean to go on, make one of your resolutions a commitment to get involved in your community!
In 2014, Geddington Gardening Club hosted the 40th Annual Village Show at Geddington Village Hall and many within the Gardening Club thought that because of dwindling numbers over previous years it might be the last. However, the show was a great event with numbers for some categories significantly up on previous years, particularly children’s categories, baking and vegetable growing. Crafting also seems to have seen something of a resurgence! As a result, the Gardening Club has committed to continue with the Village Show with the 2015 event taking place on Saturday 1st August. Everyone is invited to take part!
New children’s categories have been added for pre-school and primary school children as well as for young adults. The hope is that all local nurseries, mother and toddler groups, the Sunday school, GADS’ youth section and Geddington Primary School will participate, plus any other young people in the village. So get practising your finger painting, Lego building and baking and start to think about your scarecrow making, photography and sunflower growing now! In an attempt to get more village groups involved, the Gardening Club has added categories on chilli plant growing, soda bread baking and Scotch egg making. Do you know of any other groups that would like to get involved/participate on the day?
All of the usual categories will be represented such as vegetable growing, flower arranging (the theme for the special display in 2015 will be the - Rugby World Cup), crafts, cake baking and decorating plus photography. The photography categories are: Geddington village; a single flower; memorial. The full programme will be available in spring from the Post Office or on www.geddington.net
Meanwhile, if you would like to get involved with the friendly Gardening Club where all are welcome, meetings take place every third Monday at 7.30pm in Geddington Village Hall. The 19th January meeting has Joe Whitehead talking on ‘Over the Wall’, and the 16th February guest speaker will be Geoff Hodge on ‘Colour All Year Round’. For more information, please email
