Get the flu jab
Infl uenza is a virus causing a lung or respiratory infection. While for most people it is only an unpleasant illness that should pass in about a week, it can cause serious complications, particularly to young children and to older adults. Getting a fl u vaccination is the most effective way to stop you catching fl u and passing it on to others.
You can get the flu jab for free if you are:
- Pregnant - The vaccine is safe at any stage of pregnancy and will even protect your baby from catching fl u in its fi rst few months.
- Aged 2-3 years - The vaccination is delivered via a nasal spray rather than an injection, so is painless.
- Aged 65 years +
- Aged 6 months+ and have:
o Chronic respiratory disease o Chronic heart disease o Chronic kidney disease o Chronic liver disease o Chronic neurological disease o Diabetes o Immunosuppression
- Health and Social Care frontline staff
Why get the jab?
- Protect yourself from a nasty illness
- Prevent yourself from spreading the illness to more vulnerable people
- Help stop the spread of fl u - The more people that are vaccinated, the less risk there is to the whole population.
- Help stop the spread of fl u - Slowing the spread of fl u also slows the rate at which the virus can mutate to resist vaccination and infect again
- It’s very safe - The fl u vaccine does not have any major side effects, is highly effective, and you cannot catch fl u by getting it
