A. F. Harrold Event
8th November - 8pm
The Chequered Skipper
The Green, Ashton PE85DL

Poet and beard wearer A.F. Harrold has been invited back to Oundle after the things he did to our Children during his March Kid Lit event. He amused them. He made them sit up and pay attention. He made them sit down and be quiet. He made them laugh lots.

We thought he should be shown off to adults as well. Not only is he the author of the very fine Fizzlebert Stump series of novels for kids, he’s also a fine and varied writer and performer for adults. His oddball poetry has been heard on BBC Radio 3 and 4 and the pre-rebranding BBC7 on programmes like Wondermentalist Cabaret, Poetry Stand Up and The Material World. He’s taken shows to the Edinburgh Fringe and the Camden Fringe and once stood in for Jerry Hall at Ledbury Poetry Festival.

In 2008 he was the second Glastonbury Festival Website’s Poet in Residence and in 2010 served a similar function for the Cheltenham Literature Festival. People have paid to bring him to (note: not send him to) places as far away as Copenhagen, Vancouver and Brisbane to do his stuff and now he’s here for you.

Expect a large bearded man who crosses many fences, from the surreal to the serious, the dada to the dangerous, the average to the ignoble. Straddling a line of poetic tradition somewhere between Ivor Cutler, Vivian Stanshall and W.H. Auden you should buckle up for a performance unlike whatever you saw the last time you went to see a show unless it was a show by A.F. Harrold.
