First Birthday Celebrations

As Black & Whites Rothwell approaches its 1^st Birthday, attention to detail combined with enthusiasm, promise a very special celebration of a successful fi rst year. There is great excitement around the birthday celebrations, with a special weekend planned for Friday 20^th, where the shop stays open until 6.30pm, and Saturday 21^st September.  The fi rst 12 months has seen lots of new developments, all of which have contributed to the reputation of Black & Whites as a shop in which to purchase unusual gifts and home accessories. The shop really does live up to its declared strap line ‘making the unusual affordable’. Diane and Russ White attribute the fi rst year’s success to their commitment to constantly improving what they do and, in particular, responding to customer feedback; this has been invaluable in supporting the vision and objectives they have for the shop.

Diane has an obsession with the window, seizing every opportunity to adopt an event/theme and changing it weekly. Over the last 12 months, Diane and Russ have introduced a range of gifts for men and four new suppliers; this is in addition to the ‘one off’ items, which have been previously owned and loved. They have also introduced a loyalty card scheme, which has been well received, with many customers saving these up for Christmas. This year, with longer to plan and 12 months experience under their belts, Diane and Russ are planning a spectacular display of Christmas decorations and a wide range of gifts, costing from £2.50 - £250.

Diane and Russ both enjoy the shop enormously, gaining great satisfaction from selling and giving customers more than they expect, for example gift wrapping, free local delivery and sourcing items to order. They approach their second year with optimism and a commitment to continue to grow both their stock range and also the level of service to their customers.
