Wadenhoe Village Hall, as a village resident once said, was built from the profits of cream teas! What a quintessentially English thing to have happened, but it is true! In a bygone era, there stood a wooden building where the hall now stands. A band of enthusiasts decided to raise money to build a brand new hall and, amongst many fund raising projects, cream teas were served in a garden in the village.

Fast forward 25 years, and the hard work of these devoted people has required some much deserved attention. The beautiful location of the Village Hall, at the bottom of Church Street in the picturesque village of Wadenhoe, on the edge of the river Nene continues to be a popular destination. The hall became in need of a facelift to serve its locality efficiently. The Village Hall Committee consists of a variety of characters whose combined skills have seen through a very ambitious project. The discovery was made that grants were available for funding projects such as village halls, so the committee set about the task of application form completion. This task did take dedication! The providers will hopefully be pleased with the way their money has been spent, and the committee would like to honour their generosity:

CORY Environmental provided the funding which has seen the installation of a ‘green’ heating system, new entrance hall and toilet flooring and hygienic ‘whiterock’ in the gents toilets.

Awards for All provided the funding for the smart new front door and for the two new fire doors that, at last, protect the users of the yoga classes from the draught! They also funded the wonderfully versatile lighting system now in use.

WREN provided the grant for the fantastic kitchen that, it is hoped, will make many hirers happy for many years to come.

The Bishop of Brixworth, a keen supporter of the aspects of village life that bring the community together, was invited to a commemorative ‘unveiling’ of the fantastic facilities.

Wadenhoe Village Hall is a prime example of what can be achieved when a community pulls together.

The Village Hall is a popular venue for private parties such as wedding receptions, birthday parties and Christenings. There are various adult education classes, such as yoga and art, and there are occasional ‘workshop’ bookings for cooking and general lifestyle courses. The Village Hall is also regularly used for social events within the villages such as the annual quiz night, theatre nights and cinema, locally known as the Wadenhodeon!

Every Sunday and Summer Bank Holiday from Sunday 26th May until Sunday 29th September cream teas are served from 3-5pm.
