Oundle Music Trust is proud to announce the programme of the Oundle International Festival 2012, now in its 28th season, which promises an exciting week of diverse music and arts offerings set around a storytelling theme.

From Friday 13th to Sunday 22nd July, the town of Oundle will come alive with ‘Telling Tales’ - stories from around the world in, through and with music. In a break with a tradition, the opening concert of the Festival will feature jazz  ensemble The Darius Brubeck Quartet. Internationally-renowned musician Darius is the son of Dave Brubeck and he will be playing some of his father’s classics such as Take Five as well as his own exhilarating, South African-inspired compositions.

Annapurna Indian Dance will also have their own, colourful stories to tell in ‘Tales from Mystic India’ - a vibrant evening of traditional Indian storytelling and dance.  Another performer always ready with a story is Radio 4’s Kit Hesketh-Harvey.  The ‘Just a Minute’ performer will be teaming up with composer James McConnel to present an evening of comic songs in St Peter’s Church.

With the Olympics set to dominate this summer, there will a nod to all things international in the form of diverse acts such as the internationally-acclaimed Canadian string ensemble Trio Fibonacci, Australian organist Sarah Kim and Eastern European group Paprika. Not forgetting Björn Again who will headline the Picnic in the Park event on Saturday 14 July.  Children’s events this year will include a performance of Roald Dahl’s The Twits by theatre company Illyria, an Indian Music & Dance Workshop by Annapurna Indian Dance, and the Passport to Music event on Saturday 21 July will give children the chance to make their own ‘Passport’ using printmaking techniques and then use it to access a variety of fun music workshops around the town.

The organ has always been at the heart of Oundle International Festival and this year is no exception. Look out for recitals throughout the week, including performances from the legendary Dame Gillian Weir, Westminster Abbey’s Sub-Organist Robert Quinney, the organist from the Royal Wedding, and former Oundle for Organists pupil Tom Bell whose programme will include works from Bach to Coldplay! As usual, Oundle for Organists’ Summer School will run concurrently with the Festival culminating in the Young Organists’ Presentation Recital.

Closer to home, we will be making festival visits to Boughton House and John Clare’s Cottage, welcoming British ensembles, Pellinger’s Saraband, and Cantamus, and offering a performance platform to young artists at lunchtime recitals, and our Festival Chorus concert, Schubert: Portrait of a Composer.
