Olive Branch for Olive Grove Nurseries

Olive Grove Nurseries, the specialist olive tree and Mediterranean plant nursery which Jackie and Tim Thackeray opened in Polebrook three years ago, has extended to include The Olive Branch. The inspiration for this delightful dedicated café, gelateria and fi ne food delicatessen came, as best things do, over a glass of wine with the company who went on to supply the main counter “Coffee and Ice”, serving authentic Italian coffee and ice cream.

From there, Jackie and Tim developed the concept of introducing Mediterranean-style food and a relaxed way of shopping which, they felt, complimented the nursery.  You can enjoy a selection of cakes, Panini, wraps and other light snacks in the chill and unwind cosy corner, at the contemporary Italian seating area or alfresco in the Mediterranean inspired courtyard. The added touch of an Italian member of staff enhances the ambience and, on sunny weekends, another member of staff may play the fl amenco guitar.

Jackie & Tim taste all products prior to displaying them on the shelves in the inviting fi ne food deli. There is a wide range on offer, from the selection of frozen foods such as ready-to-bake patisserie, fi sh, fruit and vegetables that you can purchase in the exact amount you want, to cheese, ham, chorizo, jam, pickles, olives, wine, specialist coffee house ground coffee and fl oral teas; these are also served in the café in wine glasses so you can enjoy watching the fl ower opening before your eyes. All products are sourced from independent, local companies, many of which are family businesses run by small husband and wife teams, like The Olive Grove itself, and most products are not factory produced or available in large supermarket chains.  The opening of

The Olive Branch confi rms the visionary outlook that Jackie and Tim have displayed since they fi rst opened The Olive Grove and which is behind the huge success of the nursery. As well as providing an excellent specialist resource for gardeners, designers and landscapers alike and helping enthusiasts design high-impact gardens that evoke the Mediterranean lifestyle and memories of holidays in warmer climes, Jackie and Tim have dispelled the myth that Mediterranean plants are not hardy enough for the British climate, sourcing some plants that survive at 14° below freezing in their native Italy.

In addition to high quality Mediterranean plants, Olive Grove Nurseries stocks over one thousand olive trees from three to 450 years old, hardy palms up to 12 foot high and a range of less hardy plants for the conservatory or summer house. They also supply modern garden sculpture and contemporary or traditional plant pots that are up to a meter wide. The ‘Jungle’ area has a large selection of animal sculpture set amongst exotic fl owers, tropical plants, ferns, grasses and palm trees which will transport you to far away places.

What Olive Grove Nurseries are offering is niche mixed with huge professionalism which ensures that you as a customer feel valued and know that you can rely on Jackie and Tim’s expertise and commitment to quality, whether you need expert advice or help to create your own Mediterranean garden or simply want to experience the delights of a proper Italian ice cream or the authentic taste of freshly ground coffee.
