Lost BB book published

lost BB book publishedThree months before he died in 1990, renowned countryside author Denys Watkins-Pitchford, alias BB, completed his last book and gifted it to a friend with the wish that it might someday be published. Now, over two decades later, Confessions of a Coastal Gunner has
fi nally been published.

A reminiscence of BB’s much relished wildfowling safaris in the wide open spaces of Scotland and the North, Confessions of a Coastal Gunner is a rare treat for BB enthusiasts and wildfowlers of all ages. It provides a glimpse of the adventures he shared with notable companions such as Douglas McDougall, Arthur Cadman, Major Charles Oakey and Bill Humphreys is written in his inimitable conversational style.

There are tales of his faithful gundogs and exotic recipes for wild food such as ‘Oystercock Pie’ which show BB as an old style hunter-gatherer who respected his quarry and shot in anticipation of a tasty meal rather than a trophy. There are iconic moments  described such as the fi rst encounter with the albino goose which inspired his classic Manka the Sky Gypsy and the glories of the Tay which provided the setting for Dark
Estuary.

The Foreword by Ray ‘Badger’ Walker, BB’s close companion in his later years and to whom he dedicated the book, is a fond tribute to a much missed and admired friend.

Confessions of a Coastal Gunner by BB is published in clothbound and hardback (216mm x 138mm), in an open edition at £35 plus £5 p & p. Copies are directly available from
