Return of popular festival from Friday 4th through Sunday 6th December
St Peter’s Church in Walgrave is pleased to announce the return of its Christmas Tree Festival, with all the old favourites and possibly a few more! The organisers are being helped by their very own Community Connector and are likely to have more trees than ever when the doors open.
On Friday 4th from 5pm to 9pm, visitors will be able to view the trees by candlelight to the sound of both beautiful Christmas music on tape and live performances by Walgrave’s most talented adult musicians. This year there will be wine and canapés on offer too. Saturday is the family day when there will be trade stalls, games and activities for the children, live music all day from performers of all ages and even a tombola. Tea, coffee and delicious home-made cakes will also be available all day from 10am to 5pm. This is normally the busiest day and filled with fun and laughter.
Sunday will be your last chance to vote for your favourite tree when the doors open at 2pm. All visitors are offered the chance to buy a £1 voting slip. There will still be refreshments on offer and excitement will be mounting as to which tree has won most votes. At 5pm, the ever-popular Carol Service begins in the church and all the people who have taken part in the Festival will be there, together with you, the visitors, to celebrate Christmas and hear the results of the competition.
Walgrave Christmas Tree Festival was born in 2009 out of an idea to combine bringing all the clubs and organisations in the local areas together for one community event, and raising some much needed funds for St Peter’s Church. It was a huge success from the very first festival, thanks to the enthusiasm and fun loving spirit of everyone who took part. By 2011, the Festival was attracting hundreds of visitors. Unfortunately it was not possible to hold the festival in 2012 and it was decided to ‘rest’ it for a few years until it could be brought back.
All proceeds from the 2015 event go to the ongoing maintenance of the beautiful St Peter’s Church. If you would like to take part in this wonderful event or need any more information contact Katherine on 07778 783809.
