Glorious concerts for autumn in stunning settings

Friday 18th September - 7.30pm

St Andrew’s Church, Barnwell

Andy Scott and Nicholas Kok often work together, mostly in concerts that contain at least some element of improvisation. Andy, a member of the famous Apollo Saxophone Quartet, and Nicholas, a freelance conductor who has worked in many European opera houses, both passionately enjoy the buzz and thrill of improvised music-making. This performance takes as its surprising starting point a collection of hymns and the programme will also include some folk-rooted pieces, such as The Water is Wide and A Wayfaring Stranger.

Friday 9th October, 7.30pm

Glapthorn Church

Simon Davies received his Honours Degree from the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester, and has had glowing reviews from International Record Review and Gramophone magazines for his recordings. A regular with the RSC ‘band’, recent productions he has played for include Venus and Adonis and Anthony and Cleopatra. As a soloist, Simon has represented Musicians’ Concert and the London International Guitar Festival. He is a featured classical artist on Cunard’s ‘Three Queens’. Simon’s wide-ranging programme, spanning 500 years of the classical guitar repertoire, includes pieces from Elizabethan England’s foremost song composer, John Dowland, and Paraguyan, Agustín Barrios’ haunting La Catedral.
