Providing not only everyday essentials but also the little luxuries, the Cottingham Village Store & Café is a community-owned and volunteerrun centre of village life.

The shop offers the convenience of being just a short walk from anywhere in Cottingham and it supports local producers by selling their premium quality goods. Wonderful cheeses, hams, pies and delicious bread are all being hungrily snapped up by locals and visitors.

The café sells freshly ground coffee, a wide range of teas and soft drinks, bacon rolls and savoury and sweet treats for elevenses, lunch, afternoon tea - plus a popular Saturday brunch!

Cottingham Village Store & Café reopened in 2011 after more than fi ve years boarded up. It is now cooperative owned by more than a hundred villagers. Twice a week, dozens of villagers pick up their orders of bread, muffi ns, savoury tarts and cakes from Hambleton Bakery in Rutland, named Britain’s Best Bakery by ITV in 2012.

The shop’s pork products come from Grasmere Farm at Deeping St James, Lincolnshire, and include bacon and sausages from the farm’s own outdoor bred pigs. Providing villagers with a tasty and easy supper, Brockleby Pies are popular from the chiller and the freezer: there are game pies, venison, beef and salmon varieties - all made on farms in Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire.

Artisan cheeses are supplied by the Stamford Cheese Cellar and there are wonderfully fresh fruit and vegetables from the incomparable Leicester Market.
