Improved Children’s Play Facilities in Geddington

The children’s play facilities in Geddington has just received a major upgrade and have already proved popular with the younger residents. Identified as a real need by the Geddington, Newton and Little Oakley Parish Councils in their village plan, additional play facilities became the focus for a small council committee who looked into the options and applied for grants. Two major grants were awarded: £24,000 from WREN, a not for profit organisation that awards grants to community projects from funds donated by Waste Recycling Group (WRG) to the landfill Communities Fund, and £48,000 from Mick George Limited through their Mick George Community Fund.

Following the tender process Hags were awarded the contract and worked tirelessly through the last four weeks of unpredictable weather leading up to the opening on Sunday 1st July to ensure the play facilities would be available in time for Geddington’s Olympic Torch celebrations the following day. John Doran, a local resident and Olympic Torch Bearer, opened the new play facilities in Geddington as part of a village celebration with family fun, music and games.

Mark Rowley, Chairman of the Parish Council, was delighted to see the play facilities increased for the young people within Geddington. An area for preschool children has been created with baby swings, a baby basket swing, see-saw and mini roundabout, and for the older children there is an orbital roundabout, basket swing, free rider and Duel Rota Swing. Informal rocks for sitting on have also been included in addition to picnic benches and further seating for parents to sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings while their children play.

Peter Cox, managing director of WREN expressed Wren’s commitment to funding projects that make a real difference to local communities, children and families and commented that the Geddington village playground upgrade will provide a fantastic space for local people to get outdoors and have some fun. Wren is delighted to have supported Geddington, Newton and Little Oakley Parish Council to make this happen and hope many people will enjoy it for years to come.
