Hilly Horton Home had its Grand Opening on Saturday 19th March. Set up by Hilly Horton and Sarah Whiteside, the shop offers offers two floors and three rooms of home-ware, furniture, gifts, cards, prints, soft furnishings and home accessories, and Hilly and Sarah work hard to ensure that there is an eclectic mix of fresh beautiful products, which are not replicated anywhere else on the High Street.
Following a lengthy career in the Home Improvement Industry and having relocated to East Northamptonshire in 2010, Hilly Horton decided to set up her own business centred around design & textiles. With an eye for interiors and a passion for home-ware, home furnishings & accessories, Hilly’s little venture grew from strength to strength and she found herself sourcing beautiful items to accompany her own designs as she took part in local Gift Fairs, Country Fairs and Pop-Up events.
A result of positive customer feedback and a desire to take the venture forward, it became clear that Hilly needed a base from which to offer her items, and after meeting Sarah, owner of Tasty Bite Tea Shoppe in Thrapston, in 2014, Hilly arranged to sell her items from a number of shelves and a window display at the Tea Shoppe. The response was so encouraging with many customers returning again and again. Having always been keen to add furniture to her collection, and with Sarah handing the day-to-day running of the Tea Shoppe to her team, Hilly and Sarah joined forces to produce a selection of painted furniture. Given that part of the building where the Tea Shoppe is situated was once a Print Shop, “The Old Printshop” furniture collection was born. Sarah has always had an interest in painting furniture and she has experience of preparing, painting and waxing period pieces giving them a brand new lease of life.
Both Hilly and Sarah have an equal love of old, solid furniture and are very careful to select good quality pieces that they can see revitalised once Sarah has worked her magic! Bringing the furniture collection together with Hilly Horton Home was a joint decision and one that has led to the ladies setting up Hilly Horton Home which is based just to the rear of the Tea Shoppe in Goss Court, Thrapston.
Hilly Horton Home also offers a bespoke furniture-painting service for anyone who has a piece of furniture they would like to have painted. One thing they are passionate about is their choice to stock products from many local makers. Hilly and Sarah are proud stockists of Cheari-Dais giftware based in Desborough, Alfie & Joe hand-made crates from Islip, Oskimo textiles & crafts from Titchmarsh, Two Turtle Doves freehand embroidery from Stamford and, from Polebrook, the largest range of Sam Purcell Designs in the area.
Aside from the wide product range on offer, Hilly and Sarah also offer craft workshops in their studio room. These workshops are run by independent tutors and during May and June, workshops will include needle felting, crochet, knitting, cake decorating, bunting making, floristry and flower craft. Classes take place during the week and at weekends and include freshly prepared drinks and refreshments served from the Tea Shoppe. Advanced booking is recommended.
Hilly and Sarah are proud of that extra level of service they are able to offer customers. From gift vouchers to an in-house giftwrapping service to a wedding registry and gifting lists where brides & grooms and people who are due to have a birthday, anniversary or special celebration can come along and make a “Wish List” of items they would like to receive.
